Bug Detected in Google Web Search Function
Unsure how this bug slipped under the radar, but it was recently discovered that users were getting an "Access Denied" error when trying to search the web. Not sure what we're talking about? About a month or two, we introduced a clever feature into the software, allowing you to search Google from within the application. To make this possible, we utilized Google Custom Search Engine.
To access this feature, you can either enter a search query in the upper right-hand search box, or click on "Search the Web" on the Site Menu. If you used the search box, you'll have to click "Google" on the search results page. Also unsure about how the error came about, users have not been able to use the feature for some time.
A patch has already been constructed and will be deployed either Saturday or Sunday night - along with a handful of other back-end updates. Most of the other patches and updates won't bring any visible changes:
- Upgrade to Drupal 6.16 (Security issues have already been taken care of)
- Fix Google CSE permissions
- Remove popup functionality from "Add New Event" link located on the "My Events" page
The updates should take no more than 30 minutes, and as always, will be scheduled at a time convenient to you, and very inconvenient to us - either very late Saturday or Sunday night.
Thanks for your patience!
